Most of us are so preoccupied with the stuff of our lives that the natural world goes almost totally unnoticed. With the possible exception of a gold and magenta sky at sunset or a gray and rainy day that affects rush hour traffic, a lot of us do not pay much attention to it. We have lost our connection to a world in which we play a vital role. The significance of our interconnectedness to the earth needs to be reestablished. We need reminding that there is something beautiful out there which is worth taking note of and worth saving.
An event does not have to be of momentous proportions to affect us. It can be something small. These tiny, seemingly insignificant things are what contribute to making our world an amazingly beautiful place if we would just stop for a moment, be still, and take the time to look.
I do not want to lose the ability to discover these small things. There is so much around us in the world that is unfair or painful, that it seems a logical thing to want a little something that is beautiful and precious but does not have a thing to do with what we own, where we live, or how much we earn.
So my work is about some small and beautiful things that I have been affected by at different times in my life, whether I have been on a walk, camping, or just traveling in the car and taking a break at a rest stop to stretch, get a breath of fresh air and remind myself of what is real.
