Interstices

In this latest body of paintings and works on paper, I am exploring the intersection of nature and the built environment and human culture. In addition to the landscape and the occasional poisonous plant, this may be manifested more specifically with references to landscape architecture, shelters, spy planes, agribusiness, or infrastructure.

The work also reflects a play on formal concerns and theories which are inspired by a number of sources, including a Japanese garden manual, Google Earth, Islamic perspective, Japanese and Chinese painting, and contemporary issues and art practice.
