Faith and Trust

This work is intended to reference passages in the Bible that tell of the second coming of Christ.  The images are taken from personal interactions in the world more specifically images that help define my intent.  I consider them warning signs.  They are meant to stir emotion and question the surety of one’s footing.

The work is produced digitally on black paper then subtracted with bleach and salt to pull forth the image.  Bleached images of clouds and trees are reminiscent of what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah in the days of Lot.  I am specifically interested in things we’ve placed our faith and trust in, such as, the structurally strong, the intelligence of man, homes and cars.  Images of the passing away of these assurances in floods or fires interest me in that the reality of their destruction is all the more immediate.  To reinforce the idea, I am purposely using materials that are temporary such as digitally generated copies.  I also use ink, bleach, and acrylic gel medium.

I pray the work gives credence to the frighteningly real times in which we live.  No one knows the day or hour; my purpose is only to say that the signs and symbols are to be reckoned with.
