Alan Caomin Xie

Alan Caomin Xie, originally from Shanghai, China, is an Atlanta-based artist who has been living and working in the US since 1999. He first studied in China at the Academy of Art, where he obtained a BFA in sculpture. He then continued his studies in Georgia at the Savannah College of Art & Design, where he now holds his MFA in painting.

Xie’s creative work reveals an artist who actively crosses boundaries. The artist frequently repurposes ruins as means of his material, forming his own interpretation of concepts like construction and deconstruction as they are understood under the teachings of Buddhism. According to Xie, complex forms like the Mandala are “the best visual of our world.” His reference to the metaphysical iconography of Buddhism allows for introspection of today’s technological advances while propelling disparate histories.

His works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Most recently, the artist exhibited Samasara at the Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia, Atlanta and The Circle of Ruins with The Other Gallery in Bejing, China. He currently teaches studio art at Clayton State University.
